In his book “Why School,” Will Richardson argues that schools need a radical shift of perspective if they are to become relevant and useful in equipping 21st century students for life after school. He explores how the focus of today’s schools on improving test scores by teaching standard across the country is just as irrelevant to the needs of students as previous reform attempts. He argues that the traditional role of schools as imparter of knowledge has been taken over by technology... which often times does a better job of explaining said content than a teacher could. Instead he claims that schools still have a critical role in teaching students the skills they need to network and to face the world analytically.
