Thanks for coming to my site!
I spent the last year completing my credential program at California State University, San Marcos. I student-taught at Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, California, and at Valley High School in Escondido, California. Rancho Buena Vista is a traditional, comprehensive high school while Valley High School is a continuation school focused on credit recovery. Each school taught me something different about being a teacher. At Rancho Buena Vista, I learned about planning interesting lessons that focus on local issues (For example, when talking about conservation, talk about what is going on in students' backyards instead of just talking about the rainforest!). I learned have fun with students but still be their teacher. I learned strategies for engaging all students and holding all students accountable for learning even with a large class size. At Valley High School I learned that, in order to really teach your students in a meaningful way, you must develop a relationship with them. I learned how most students want to learn but don't want to waste their time learning things that don't apply to their lives outside of school.
Who am I?
I am a science-loving, Doctor Who-watching, Dickens-reading enthusiast for learning more about the world around me every day... and someone who wants to challenge others to do the same. I want students to see the beauty in science because... well because there is so much beauty in our universe. I want them to experience the same sense of wonder in the classroom that they do when they are out hiking Iron Mountain or watching waves crash at the beach. I love all things avian (except, possibly, the flu) and can't go more than a couple weeks without making the trip out to the ocean. I love roadtripping with my husband (we have almost been married 3 months!) and the coastal redwoods in Nor Cal and Oregon are pretty much my favorite place to be ever.
